The GAZOSCAN™ methane gas detector uses laser technology for remote methane leak detection. It is ultralight versus most competitive brands and highly sensitive. Because the GAZOSCAN is selective to methane, there are no false alarms even in the presence of other hydrocarbons. The GAZOSCAN can detect through glass and sense over 60% further than other options. Also, rather than having a pistol tethered to a bulky electronic box, like the industry's standard, the GAZOCAN is all encompassed in a single pistol-like tool weighing less than 2 lbs. The unit is easy to use, has a large LCD, intuitive controls to set alarm thresholds, and responds fast (0.1 seconds).

When a technician directs a laser discharge from the infrared emitter, toward a target, the laser beam becomes partially absorbed when methane is present. The laser beam reflects back to the GAZOSCAN detector and converts to an electrical signal, which determines the relative methane concentration.

Handheld Methane Gas Detector Applications

Given that the GAZOSCAN can detect at distances up to 160 feet and through glass, the unit is ideal when the technician cannot operate close to an inspection area, such as:

  • Natural gas inspection of residential buildings and properties
  • Gas leak survey/inspection of natural gas pipelines
